The Central Reserve Police Force (crpf long form) is the country's largest Central Armed Police Force. It is under the supervision under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. The primary function of the CRPF is to assist the State and Union Territories with police operations to enforce law and order , and to combat the insurgency. It was established in the form of Crown Representative's Police on the 27th July 1939. After Indian Independence, it became an official part of the Central Reserve Police Force on the passing of the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.

In addition to law and order and counter-insurgency roles as well as counter-insurgency functions in general, the CRPF has been playing a greater part in india's North East elections. This is particularly the case for states like the one that was once part of Jammu as well as Kashmir, Bihar and in the North East, due to the existence of violence and unrest. During the elections to the Parliament of September 1999 the CRPF was a major player regarding security measures. As of late, CRPF contingents are also being sent into UN missions.

Organizational Set-up of the Force

Force Headquarters of Central Reserve Police Force is located at Block No. 1, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The CGO Complex is led by Director General who is assisted with three Addl. Directors General , 9 Inspectors General of Police, a Financial Adviser and Director (Medical). The structure is the following :

Directorate General

Administration

Administration Directorate Administration Directorate is operating under the direction and the direction of lG (Adm). They are supported with the help of DIG (Adm) along with DIG (Welfare).

Personnel

The Personnel Directorate is functioning under the direction of lG (Pers). The director is assisted by the aid by DIG (Pers), DIG (CR and Vig), DIG (Org), DIG (Estt) and Comdt(Estt).

Training

The Training Directorate operates under the overall supervision from IG(Training). He is assisted with the help of DIG (Training-l), DIG (Training-ll) and DIG(Sports).

Operations

The Operations Directorate is functioning under the direction by IG (OPS). The Directorate is supported by the help by DIG (OPS-I) along with DIG (OPS-II).

Provisioning

The Provisioning Directorate is under the direct supervision of IG (Provisioning). He is assisted by Director of Information (Prov) and the DIG (Mod as well as ORD), DIG(MT), Comdt. (Mod) and Asstt. Director (Prov).

Communication

IG(Communication) is in charge Communications Dte. Communication Dte. He is supported by DIG (Eqpt ), DIG (Tech) and DIG (IT) .

Intelligence

The Intelligence Directorate is functioning under the general supervision has been assigned to IG (Intelligence). He is assisted by DIG (MAC),Commandant(Int) and PRO.

Establishment

The Establishment branch operates under the direct supervision by IG(Estt.). The IG(Estt.) is backed by DIG(Law) along with DIG (Rectt).

Finance

The Finance Branch and Pay is located under the direct supervision from FA. It is supported by Dy.FA.

Medical

The Medical Branch is functioning under the supervision of the IG Director (Medical). They are assisted by two Dy. Director (Medical)
